Transmission Oil Change

Current economic realities have made it so that more and more people are in a situation where they may not be able to afford to upgrade their vehicle as often as they used too. Some people may have gotten used to being able to get a new car long before major problems began to occur in the past. Now, though, cars need to remain on the road longer, which means getting more scheduled maintenance that may have been put off before, such as getting a transmission oil change.

The process to get it done does not usually take too long. There are a few things to look out for when going in, though. Some places will not take the due care and will end up blowing out a seal by using over pressured pumps to flush the system.

The best idea is to get the system flushed when you are going in for regular tune ups. This will ensure that if there is a problem it can be corrected there. If you go into a place that specializes in oil changes or things of that nature, they may not be able to fix problems that may be caused in the process.

The fluid in a transmission is a little different from a regular oil. The best kind to use is a synthetic motor oil, as it lasts longer and runs through the engine smother. Most cars on the road today are using synthetics in their engines. The synthetic is better at keeping a car lubricated while it is working, keeping all the moving parts in good working order.

There is still the option to use conventional fluid in the transmission. It will work well, but will probably not lubricate as good as the synthetic. Most places offer the option and can tell you what will work best for your car. The choice, though, is up to you and depends a lot more on how you drive your car and how often you go in for changes.

Before going in for a change, it is probably a good idea to look around at your options. In a bigger city you can find many different places that are able to provide these services. Some are going to cost a lot and some are going to be pretty cheap. Getting it done as cheap as possible, though, isn’t the best idea if you aren’t sure the people working there are really on top of their game. Finding out the lowest cost, though, can give you some leverage in negotiating down the price at more reputable places.

Transmissions should be treated with the up most care. If the transmission goes, the car will not be able to be driven. The transmission is what puts power from the engine into the wheels. When it isn’t working, the car isn’t going anywhere.

Paying a little extra for a transmission oil change can be looked at as an investment. With the price of replacing a transmission being eighteen hundred dollars or more, a hundred dollar flush every thirty thousand miles is generally worth it.
