Discount Oil Change
If you do not get a regular transmission oil change then you can expect a huge problems with your transmission and engine sooner than you think. Even a discount oil change is better than no change at all.
A lot of walk-in customers ask me for an oil change special for their new Toyota, Ford or Lexus vehicle. Why don’t we offer a $15 oil change special? Let’s talk about that for a second.
You’ve already invested a lot of money in your vehicle – you’ve done your homework, negotiated your best deal and want to keep your car running well for many years to come. The latest Consumer Reports survey on brand perception shows Toyota continues to impress consumers, which is no surprise. Toyota brands have demonstrated reliability with just regular maintenance.
Ford follows in second place because they offer a wide range of reliable vehicles that can be used in a variety of settings. From a college student who needs economical transportation to the stylish Mustang, Ford makes good products.
Filling out the top 5 spots are Honda, Chevrolet and Volvo. At our shop, we see similar results – preventative and periodical maintenance helps to keep these vehicles on the road with minimal repair bills, which helps keep the owner feeling good about their purchase.
An integral part of maintaining your vehicle is on-going maintenance – from an automatic transmission fluid change to brake maintenance and an inspection of all of the systems in between. So, an oil change includes rotating the tires – by removing the wheels, the brake system becomes available for inspection. Most of the time, no work is needed, but an inspection can let the mechanic observe abnormal wear and tear or any other issue that might arise.
We also check the transmission fluid, differential fluid, air conditioning, radiator coolant, power steering fluid and a long checklist of the other components. Like I said, most of the time these observations confirm that everything is running fine but they also allow the mechanic to use his diagnosis skills to see if there are problems with these components before they become costly.
Finally, I hate to say it, but many oil change shops use low cost oil filters and reconditioned motor oil – it saves them a few bucks on their parts costs, which allows them to offer a $14.95 oil change.
If the low cost filter or missing the rest of the inspection brings a major repair bill – and we’ve seen it happen more than once – have you really saved any money? I don’t think so, which is why we do not offer a teaser oil change service – it does not provide our customer with a good service.
Think about it next time you take your Toyota Camry or Ford Mustang in for an oil change – I’m sure you’re thinking that a few dollars for all of these added services is a good value. If you have more questions about this or any other automotive needs, give me a call.

Interesting way of flushing an AT transmission
I’m not a big fan of transmission flushes. In many cases I think that shops push then as a profit center. They bought the machine and it needs to make money. To make matters worse some push a "flush" instead of just a fluid change.
